We operate a waiting list for some sections – notably Beavers – as we do have limits on how many young people we can accommodate.
Luckily, there is almost no limit on the number of adult helpers we can make use of – and it doesn’t matter what your background or experience is. We are especially pleased to welcome back adults who benefitted from Scouting (or Guiding) when they were younger, but this is certainly not a requirement. Of course it is nice to have helpers who can come every week, but even if you can only manage to help for occasional events (when we go out for a walk, for instance) or attending the quarterly Executive Meetings this is also most welcome.
Current specific vacancies are a Group Secretary & a Cub Parent Representative. We are also setting up an Explorer Unit to extend the Group to the 14-18 age range – we really need more leaders to make this successful:
Please contact Fionna if you can help.
Explorer Scouts (14–18)
Explorers are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the programme
and direction of the Unit, with support and guidance from leaders. The section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme, where young people are able to take on a leadership role in one of the younger sections.
There is wider scope for activities like offshore sailing, campaigning, performing, parascending, mountaineering and expeditions.
