Welcome to 1st Stoke Golding (St Margaret’s) Scout Group. That’s a bit of a mouthful, so let’s just say Stoke Golding Scouts from now on.
We are part of Hinckley District, in the County of Leicestershire (in the UK, for the benefit of anyone a long way away). We are based in the village of Stoke Golding – our members coming from neighbouring villages and parts of Hinckley too – with an almost 50-50 mix between girls and boys in all three sections. They start at age 6 in Beavers, go to Cubs at 8, then on to Scouts sometime between their 10th & 11th birthdays. On reaching 14 1/2, they currently leave us to become Explorer Scouts (up to 18), then Scout Network (up to 25). We are in the process of setting up an Explorer Unit – WATCH THIS SPACE!
The Group was started with help from St. Margaret’s Church in the village (hence our name) and although we have looked after ourselves for many years we still enjoy a good relationship with the Church, and indeed St.Margaret’s School.
As with all Scout Groups, Stoke Golding Scouts are completely volunteer run – the leaders, helpers and committee all put in their time to make Scouting happen for the young people in and around Stoke Golding with no reward except the satisfaction of passing on skills and experiences to the next generation. Please contact us if you would like to know more about how you could help – whether on an occasional or more regular basis.
On the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War, we were very proud of how our Beavers, Cubs & Scouts took an active part in the Remembrance Day Parade in Stoke Golding – more details here…
